Good to know that if I find myself looking for significant architecture in Medellín, Colombia, I will be covered in the Spanish department. This gorgeous library, with jagged walls that resemble facets of stones and arrays of windows that shimmer like silver dust, does a beautiful job of working with its surrounding environment.

Unfortunately, I find the interior to be a bit of a let-down. Rather than continue the jagged motif inside, the architects use supports to connect the exterior to what seems to be a vanilla, rectangular structure. While the gap does make for a dramatic space, it makes the building sort of a cube in rock’s clothing. A beautiful building, none-the-less.
